Difficulties

Pixel Lineage dungeons — difficulties compared

Difficulty is a farming decision as much as a risk decision: higher settings drop better gear but cost more lives to learn. Pick the setting that matches where your character actually is, not the one you hope to clear.

Normal

Recommended for: First characters and unfamiliar classes

The first area is manageable and is the right place to learn the attack and dodge prompts. Drops are the weakest of the three settings.

Start here even if you plan to move on quickly: learning the quick-time event timing on Normal costs time, not Lives.

Hard

Recommended for: Characters with a working build and spare Lives

Raises the risk and improves dropped gear, while remaining one of the two documented sources of race evolution artefacts.

The Heirloom and Heart Blood needed for Race Evolution come from surviving Hard and Nightmare runs, so Hard is a progression gate and not just an optional challenge.

Nightmare

Recommended for: Finished builds farming specific drops

The highest listed difficulty. Listed alongside Hard as a source of evolution artefacts.

Only worth entering with Lives to spare: a death costs a Life and three deaths end the save.

Run types

Pixel Lineage run types and how you enter them

A dungeon run is not one mode. Solo and multiplayer share the same Acts progression, while the Raid Gate and secret bosses sit on separate tracks with their own rewards.

Town

Pixel Lineage dungeons — town facilities and the code box

The town is where you prepare between runs. Repairing the Blacksmith unlocks forging, and the Goblin Merchant is where the code box lives — the entry point for the redemption rewards listed on the codes page.

Progression

Finishing a Pixel Lineage run without losing a life

A run only pays out if the character survives it. The three lives are a budget, and losing the last one wipes the character, so the goal on a risky route is to leave with the drops rather than to clear at any cost.

Use the Return Home option in the bottom-left corner to exit a run and keep the character. Bosses drop better gear than regular enemies, and higher difficulties raise drop quality further, so difficulty selection is part of the farming plan.

  • Race Evolution and the Ultra Class both sit behind harder content, which means the reward for raising difficulty is permanent power rather than just loot.

What public sources do — and do not — say

The sources describe the run structure and difficulty settings, but several tables players search for are not published. No per-Act zone list, boss table, recommended power per Act or loot list is claimed here.

  • Whether the Halloween event content survives the event is not confirmed; event rewards are treated as temporary.

The turn order and lives rules behind each run are covered on the combat system page, and the gear that drops is grouped on the weapons page.

Common questions

FAQ

What difficulties are there in Pixel Lineage dungeons?

There are three settings — Normal, Hard and Nightmare. Normal is where you learn the attack and dodge prompts, Hard raises the risk and the drop quality, and Nightmare is the highest listed setting for finished builds. Hard and Nightmare are the two documented sources of race evolution artefacts.

How many lives do you get in a Pixel Lineage run?

A character starts with three lives. Dying costs a life and returns you to town, and losing the last one wipes the character and restarts you from the beginning. That is why leaving a run early with Return Home is usually cheaper than finishing a fight you cannot win.

Where is the Pixel Lineage code box?

The code box sits at the Goblin Merchant, the castle stand in town, at the bottom of the store window. The step-by-step redemption requirements are collected on the codes page.

What does the Ancient Portal do in Pixel Lineage?

The Ancient Portal returns you to areas and Acts you have already unlocked. It matters once you are farming one specific drop, because it removes the need to walk the whole route again from the first zone.

Are Pixel Lineage secret bosses worth fighting?

They cannot be planned for — they appear at random while exploring — and they pay out EXP, Gold, Knowledge and unique Secret Items. Fight them when the run is healthy, because a fragile run can end on one of these encounters.
