Deep dive

Pixel Lineage classes — roles, strengths and weaknesses

Each class trades something to get something. The strengths and tradeoffs below come straight from the recorded data, so a class with a short strength list is not weak — it is one that leans on a single clear idea.

Warrior

SEasy

Swords, axes and cleavers · Front-line melee with balanced attack and defence

Strengths

  • Average stats across the board with an affinity for attack and defence
  • Unlocks meaningful power spikes as skills and weapons come online
  • The most forgiving class for learning the quick-time event timing

Tradeoffs

  • No standout stat, so it relies on gear more than other classes

The default recommendation for a first save. Its simpler attack pattern leaves you free to learn the combat system instead of the class.

Archer

SEasy

Bows · Ranged damage with high speed

Strengths

  • Attacks from a distance, so enemies get fewer chances to dodge
  • High speed keeps the class mobile in crowded fights
  • Balanced enough to be enjoyable while you are still learning

Tradeoffs

  • Gives up some defence compared with Warrior

Ranked S alongside Warrior. Ranged positioning lowers the cost of misreading an enemy's attack prompt.

Fist

AHard

Knuckles, gauntlets and hand wraps · Close-range bruiser that tanks what it hits

Strengths

  • Heavy hits that scale with combo timing
  • A natural tank that can absorb the damage it invites
  • Stonekin's Fist bonus stacks with the class identity

Tradeoffs

  • Hard to master — you must be in range to do anything
  • Punished by enemies with area attacks

Ranked A. Stonekin is the race that most directly rewards this class, since its bonus only applies to Fist attacks.

Mage

BMedium

Staves and sceptres · Magic damage carry with a slow start

Strengths

  • Invests everything into power once enough spells are unlocked
  • Pairs with the magic bonuses on Celestine and Vesper
  • Strong in the later acts rather than the opening zones

Tradeoffs

  • Very slow start before the spell list fills out
  • Sacrifices defence and support utility to pay for its damage

The clearest example of a class where the race choice matters: Vesper reaches near-30% extra magic at full evolution.

Bard

CHard

Lutes and lyres · Support and self-buffing

Strengths

  • Buffs and healing that help the whole party
  • Can hold its own late once skills and equipment catch up

Tradeoffs

  • Sacrifices direct damage for support
  • Designed around multiplayer, so solo runs feel weaker

Ranked C because most of its value only pays out when someone else is in the run to benefit.

Thief

DMedium

Daggers and kunai · Speed and burst with no defence

Strengths

  • High speed and decent power make it a strong glass cannon
  • Rewards players who have the dodge timing down

Tradeoffs

  • Severely lacking in defence
  • Punishing for new players — a missed dodge costs a Life

Ranked D for progression, not for damage: the class works if you already dodge reliably, and the three-Life system makes that expensive to learn.

Committing

Choosing a Pixel Lineage class — and what a reset keeps

All six classes are chosen when you create a character. The choice is not reversible in place: changing class means resetting, and only some progress carries over.

That makes the first class choice matter, but it is not a permanent lock on your account. If you reset, a specific set of progress carries over rather than everything being wiped.

What carries over on a reset

  • Materials
  • Race
  • Traits

Everything outside this list is lost when you reset to change class, so bank these categories before you commit to the switch.

Progression

Pixel Lineage Super Class

How you unlock it. You eventually reach a shrine that offers several specialised class options.

What it changes. The chosen Super Class adds extra moves and raises your combat ceiling.

Before you commit. Read the options against your current weapon and race before committing: the Super Class shapes the abilities you use for the rest of that save.

The video below walks through where the shrine is and what the upgrade changes for your character; the written note above is the part you should confirm against your own weapon and race first.

Progression

Pixel Lineage Ultra Class — Sigils and Tomes

Requirements

  • Sigils, which drop from Act 5 content and later
  • Tomes, needed for some additional Ultra Class skills

How to target it. Different bosses have better odds of dropping specific Sigils, so target the encounter that drops the one you need instead of farming random enemies.

Pacing. Treat this as a long-term collection goal rather than a step you rush on a new save.

Because Sigils come from Act 5 content and later, the Ultra Class is a long-term goal rather than a step you rush. Track which boss drops the Sigil you need and run that encounter deliberately.

What this page does — and does not — cover

This page can tell you how each class is ranked, how hard it is to learn and which family it uses. It cannot tell you exact per-class numbers, and it does not invent them.

  • Sources publish class rankings and difficulty labels, not stat tables, so no attack, defence or speed values are listed here.
  • The exact Super Class options at the shrine and the full Sigil drop table are not published in the sources used here.
  • Class Mastery gains are documented as a battle reward but no per-class mastery curve is published.

For the numbers that are recorded, see the weapons page and the race spin calculator.

Common questions

FAQ

What classes are in Pixel Lineage?

There are six classes: Warrior, Archer, Fist, Mage, Bard and Thief. You pick one when you create a character, and each one pairs with a different weapon family and role.

Which Pixel Lineage class should a beginner pick?

Warrior is the default recommendation for a first save because it has average stats and the most forgiving attack pattern, which leaves you free to learn the combat system. Archer is the other S-tier pick, trading some defence for ranged positioning.

Can you change your class in Pixel Lineage?

The class choice is not reversible in place. Changing class means resetting the character, and only some progress carries over: materials, race and traits are kept while the rest is lost.

How do you get a Super Class in Pixel Lineage?

You eventually reach a shrine that offers several specialised class options. The Super Class you choose adds extra moves and raises your combat ceiling, so it is worth reading the options against your current weapon and race before committing.

What do you need for an Ultra Class in Pixel Lineage?

Ultra Class requirements are Sigils, which drop from Act 5 content and later, and Tomes for some additional skills. Different bosses have better odds of dropping specific Sigils, so target the right encounter instead of farming random enemies.

Does this page list attack, defence or speed values for each class?

No. The sources used here publish class rankings and difficulty labels rather than stat tables, so no per-class attack, defence or speed values are listed on this page.
